Hotel Review: Kona Kai Resort, San Diego, California

There are no hotels near SeaWorld San Diego, which is about a 25-minute drive away. The good news is that it’s easy to drive there thanks to the large parking lot. You can also pick up a designated drop-off spot in the parking lot with a shared ride like Uber or Lyft. I always leave my kids there – it’s free and easy.

This list has been compiled to list the top rated hotels in all price ranges as close as possible to SeaWorld San Diego. It’s a bit different than the others I’ve put together because it covers a lot of ground. Mission Beach and the Old Town area are close to SeaWorld San Diego.

Although far away, hotels in downtown San Diego and hotels in La Jolla are also convenient for visiting SeaWorld. I would recommend these two places to those looking for a real luxury hotel as neither is on this list.

Some hotels with SeaWorld in their names aren’t as close to the park as their names suggest. If you are considering a hotel that is not on this list, check the location on Google Maps or a similar platform to avoid being misled.

Speaking of distance, here are a few things to keep in mind when making your way to this popular San Diego park. I’ve included how far each hotel is from SeaWorld San Diego by foot, if it’s possible to walk. By the way, I mentioned the driving time.

The driving distance can be shorter or longer than the walking distance. The walking and driving routes are different as there are bridges across the bay and at some points you have to safely cross busy streets to reach the park entrance.

You MUST buy your SeaWorld San Diego tickets online before you arrive at the park to get the lowest prices. There are often online-only deals. The best prices will be on their website. You don’t need to pay money up front.

Tip: General parking at SeaWorld San Diego is free for select annual pass holders, but the cost per person is $30 per car. A desirable parking space is also available. You can save time by booking parking online, and depending on the location of your hotel or resort, you can save money by using Uber.

Luxury Dog & Pet Friendly Hotels In San Diego

Why: Families love the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay Spa & Marina; It completed a $65 million renovation in 2019. It’s one of the few hotels in San Diego that has water slides (there are three, and guests must be 42 inches or taller to use them).

Walk four blocks to Belmont Park, our waterfront park, and Ocean Beach in Mission Beach with many restaurants and shops along the beach and Main Street.

Beach Amenities: Although located in Mission Bay, the hotel does not have a beach on the beach, but one of the best things to do in Mission Bay is water sports. Mission Bay Sports Center rents jet skis, kayaks, canoes, water skis and bicycles on site for use on the bay. Gone Sailing, which departs from the hotel’s marina, offers private and group charters.

Good to know: There is no Regency Club at this hotel. You can read mixed reviews, but most are pre-update. This is one of my top picks for comprehensive services and near-future to-dos. Interconnecting rooms are offered, namely:

Why go: San Diego’s recently renovated Mission Bay resort is a great choice for those visiting SeaWorld and other San Diego destinations because of the resort’s freeway access (we didn’t hear freeway noise from our room), but again. recently renovated rooms, large heated pool and water sports. A good choice among beach hotels.

Mission Bay Waterfront and a beautiful sandy beach are right in front of the hotel. Leave room for fire pits as s’mores kits are available at the on-site shop.

The resort was once the Hilton San Diego Resort & Spa, but is now part of the Noble House Hotels & Resorts collection of upscale, experience-focused properties.

Beach Equipment: Sandbox rents bikes (surreys, cruisers, kids bikes and trailers) to ride on the boardwalk and sand toys to use on the beach. Action Sports Rental at the marina rents pedal boats, Segways, paddle boards, pontoons and more. There is a net for beach volleyball (balls available at reception).

Top Pet Friendly Rentals In San Diego

Good to know: Like Paradise Point, Ocean Beach is on the other side of the bay. However, this hotel offers a sense of privacy due to its easy access to sidewalks and the freeway. It is about 6 miles from the bay to Mission Beach.

Awards: #8. best recreation area in San Diego, 2019 (U.S. News & World Report); #2 Best Family Resort in the US 2019 (MA)

Note: This hotel will be replaced by Margaritaville in 2024 (I suspect this will improve things, but I’m not sure.)

Why it’s worth it: Paradise Point Resort is a 462-room, 4-star resort in Mission Bay, founded in 1962 by legendary Hollywood director Jack Skirball.

The Best Hotels In San Diego

The 44-hectare resort truly feels like a secluded tropical island, as more than a kilometer of beach surrounds its complex. Guests can enjoy five swimming pools, tranquil lakes and lush gardens. The beach has no waves (which attracts families with small children), and visitors can rent water sports in the area.

The resort is located on the other side of Mission Bay from the beach. To get to the beach, you have to go around the bay for 3 kilometers (in the summer you should take an Uber, as parking is difficult). It feels like a hotel very close to SeaWorld because you can see the park when you walk in the door, but you walk from door to door.
