Lake Michigan Beach Pet Friendly Vacation Rentals
Dogs are allowed on a section of beach near the mouth of the Pinbok River, accessible by a metal bridge connecting hiking trails near the campground. Pets must be kept under control and it is important to remember to clean your pet properly!
One of our favorite dog-friendly patios, Puck’s Backyard, is also located in Port Austin! They have Michigan craft beer, great bar food, and a great atmosphere. They always have live music so you can enjoy dinner with your pack and a drink on the water after a long day at the beach!
A few more hours along the shores of Lake Huron, another favorite stop of ours is Tawas Point! This dog beach is one of the only beaches in Michigan that is closed due to the practice of allowing dogs to run free in a certain area. The campground is dog-friendly, so you can bring your dog for a weekend of summer fun!
Boathouse Beer Company & Boozery is another great stop for patio dining with your pets. It’s in the center of Tawas, they have great food and drinks, and across the street from another little park that’s dog friendly!
Pet Friendly Vacation Rentals In Northern Michigan
If you’re looking for a unique experience to enjoy with your dog in Michigan, Mackinac Island I.T. Take one of the dog-friendly tours, Star Line or Shepler’s, to travel to a car-free island—a unique experience! Once there, you can explore more than 70 miles of trails and overlooks, eat at one of the many local dog-friendly restaurants, and explore the history of Fort Holmes with your dog. Many shops in the city center allow four-legged visitors – look out for the ‘Dogs Welcome’ sign!
Mackinac Island also has three dog-friendly hotels, including Park Place Suites, Sunset Residences, and our favorite, Mission Point Resort, which has an amazing dog-friendly patio!

Manistee is another Northern Michigan gem, and yes, you can bring your dogs! The park has several dog-friendly spots including Sand Point Beach, Munising Falls Trail, Miners Falls Trail, Miners Beach, Lake Superior Overview and Beach, and Sable Falls Trail and Beach.
Awesome Dog Friendly Things To Do In Traverse City
While the North Country Scenic Tour and all backcountry campgrounds are unfortunately closed to pets, three car camping areas, including Little Beaver Lake, Twelvemile Beach, and Hurricane River Campgrounds, allow dogs.
Located in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, Marquette is one of my favorite places on Earth and a place to add to your list of places to explore with your dog. Along the shores of Lake Superior with mountains and stunning views, there are many hidden gems.
When we go, we stay at the Staybridge Inn and Suites, which is right downtown. The cabins are large with pet-friendly equipment and the dogs loved being treated for a change from our usual camping adventures. Staybridge Inn and Suites is a great hotel chain to look out for in other cities as well – we’ve stayed at it several times while on the road and it’s always a treat!
Hike to one of the area’s many waterfalls, and if you’re feeling brave, jump into Dead Falls River, a moderate but short 1.7-mile round trip. If you’re looking for a view of the water from the top, check out Sugarloaf Mountain or Hogback Mountain, both steep hills, but well worth it once you get to the top!

After a day of sightseeing, visit the dog-friendly patio of dog-friendly Brewing Dog. They have heavenly brews on the house and when we visited last year they also had some amazing seltzers! If you’re lucky, you’ll catch DÃa de los Tacos parked outside – the tacos are so good, we hunt down this food truck wherever it is during the day!
Traverse City has been named one of the best small towns in America, and it certainly lives up to the hype. It is very dog ​​friendly and we make it a must visit at least once a year! The Greater Traverse City area is one of the premier wine regions in Michigan, with more than 40 different wineries located throughout the peninsula. Come for a day of wine tasting and bring your dog along with some of our favorites like Mari Vineyards, Left Foot Charlie and Bonobo, all of which welcome canine guests!
