Dog Friendly Day Trips From Nyc
Clermont State Historic Site welcomes four-legged friends to more than 500 acres of beautiful gardens, meadows and forests. You can enjoy five miles of marked nature trails and three miles of marked boardwalks (open daily from 8:30 a.m. to dusk) or sunbathe on a picnic bench and enjoy views of the Hudson River like Livingston.

A walk through the Roosevelt National Historic Site and the Eleanor Roosevelt National Historic Site in Hyde Park can put you in a good mood, perhaps because it reminds you of one of FDR’s most famous dogs, Fala. . Other dog-friendly historic sites on our “must-sniff” list include: Locust Gardens in Poughkeepsie (the Young Family Pet Cemetery is totally cool, not at all creepy), Staatsburg State Historic Site in Staatsburg, and Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site Park in Hyde. Tivoli Bays is now part of the Empire State Trail and has many trails to traverse the property and tons of wildlife. Make sure the leash is tight to avoid accidents!
One of our most popular parks is the boardwalk above Hudson State Historic Park in Poughkeepsie. This is a dog lover’s paradise. 212 feet above the Hudson River, you’ll see dogs of all sizes and shapes walking alongside their owners. Beware of hot summer days when pavement temperatures are too high for delicate feet. Other dog-friendly parks include Ferncliff Forest in Burger Hill, Drayton Grant Park in Rhinebeck, and Dover Stone Church in Dover Plains. Tips For Surviving Road Trips With A Dog

Not what you expected? Perhaps unsurprisingly, there is a lot of overlap between people involved in craft beverages. When you’re looking for a place to grab a few craft beers with a dog, Wappingers Falls has plenty to choose from, including Obercreek Brewing Company. There you will find good tunes, tasty beer and a relaxed atmosphere. Other breweries that welcome well-behaved dogs into their outdoor spaces include Bee Farm Brewery in Poughkeepsie and Black Snake Brewing Company in Staatsburg.
But if you’re not a big fan of hopsine, don’t worry, there are other dog-friendly craft beers out there. Dutch Spirits in Pine Plains allows broodstock at its Prohibition-era estate. Likewise, Denning’s Point Distillery in Beacon and Taconic Distillery in Stanfordville are pet-friendly. Plus, the pups can hang out at the Treasury Cider Bar at Fishkill Farm in Hopewell Junction. Finally, Millbook Vineyards and Winery invites man’s best friend to enjoy its beautiful grounds and picnic areas.

Just like us, sometimes your BFF just needs a day or two to run and roam freely in the wilderness. If your dog is a beach lover (and who isn’t?), we’ve found ten dog-friendly beaches near New York where your pup can play in the sand and cool off in the salt water. You can choose between popular or secluded beaches where your dog can meet new friends or work on a game of Frisbee. Pack your beach blanket, sunscreen, plenty of water, and doggy bags and get ready for a fun outdoor trip with your pet.
Shadmoor State Park in Montauk, New York is the perfect getaway for you and your furry friend. About a three-hour drive from New York City, this state park has beach access, hiking trails, and observation decks. Dogs must be supervised at all times, but can play on the beach and swim in the ocean in a shallow depth of no more than six feet. Grab your blanket and picnic basket and spend the day on the sand, bird watching or enjoying the beautiful scenery.
An easy drive from New York, Rockaway Beach has the town’s only legal surfing beach, a boardwalk, and plenty of restaurants. From Memorial Day to Labor Day, dogs are not allowed on the sand or boardwalk, but visit in the off-season when there are fewer people and a little cooler. After a long day of letting your kid explore the ocean and play in the sand, head to the dog-friendly Rockaway Beach Surf Club for tacos and drinks. Rockaway Beach is easily accessible year-round by car, subway, and ferry.
Looking for a place where your four-legged friend can roam free and experience Mother Nature? Look at Prospect Park in Brooklyn. The park offers special closing times for dogs from 6:00am to 9:00pm and 9:00pm. At 1 a.m., there’s plenty of room to play on the lawn. The park features a dog beach where dogs can cool off in the water, dig in the sand and make new friends. Located just north of Long Meadow Ballfield, Dog Beach is accessible by subway and car.
Fun & Unusual Things To Do In Central Park
Time to take a road trip. Get in the car and drive two hours to Gardiner County Park on Long Island’s Bay Shore. This public park offers trails through wetlands and forests and is a great place to explore nature with your pet in a secluded area. Dogs must be on a leash, but Great South Bay has plenty of trails to explore, a dog fountain and a small beach.
Ready to hit the beach? Fisherman’s Cove Conservation Area in Manasquan, New Jersey is a great place to spend some time with Fido. The eastern part of the area is considered a dog beach and allows your four-legged friend to swim in the water and relax on the sand. Dogs should take the initiative to protect their beach habitat, but this shouldn’t stop them from enjoying the sun. About an hour and a half from New York City, Fisherman’s Cove Conservation Area is close to many restaurants, bars and other beaches.
Admire the famous hurricane and eat a hot dog at Nathan’s Famous while strolling along Coney Island Beach. Since dogs are not allowed on the beach in summer, you need to get there between October and May to enjoy the three kilometers of sand. Not all dogs can swim in the water, but they can walk the boardwalk year-round. To experience all that Coney Island has to offer, you can take the subway from New York City and travel an hour and a half.
About a two and a half hour drive from New York City, Wildwood Dog Park, and the beach make it worth the trip to New Jersey. Your dog can roam freely in two fenced areas, one for large dogs and one for small dogs. The park is about two blocks long and dogs can swim in the water or play in the sand year-round. If you want your pup to have free reign in the water and sand, this is the place to visit.

If you’re looking for a break from the city, a trip to a dog-friendly beach in New England is the perfect getaway. Located on Long Island Sound in Madison, Connecticut, Hammonasset Beach State Park offers two miles of beach fun. They can only be visited between November and April, except for the beach, where dogs are welcome all year round. Take your child on a two-hour drive to explore this beautiful Connecticut beach.
Plumb Beach is a small beach just off Brooklyn’s Belt Parkway, and it’s the perfect place to spend a nice, relaxing day with your furry friend. Near Sheepshead Bay, this beach is dog-friendly year-round
