Dog Friendly Beaches East Lothian – This year, we’re exploring English heritage through our annual fundraiser. When we went to Northumberland on holiday, we had the chance to meet my friend Jenny. They planned to meet at Tantallon Castle, a Scottish treasure near North Berwick in East Lothian. With free or half-price Scottish Heritage and British Heritage membership, it’s a great opportunity to explore somewhere new.
Tantallon Castle is a Scottish treasure near North Berwick in East Lothian. Built by William Douglas in the mid-13th century, his descendants occupied the castle for the next 300 years. It survived two sieges, but the destruction of Oliver Cromwell’s army in 1851 led to its abandonment.

These days, it’s far from abandoned. The picturesque hillside location attracts tourists and a couple had a wedding photo shoot while we were there. I can only imagine the beauty of those photos.
Dog Walk At Reculver Beach
Several sites of interest to archaeologists were excavated from 2013 to 2014. Tantalan Museum offers a spectacular view of Bass Rock, home to seabirds. Wild animals can be seen from the walls of the fort, as well as robots running around the house.
For children, this is a great place to explore. They ran around the meadows, climbed towers and played together. Upon entry, children are given a bag of items to make their visit more enjoyable, including dolls, lights and binoculars. This gave us more access to their surroundings and gave us a chance to enjoy the palace.
After admiring the palace, we decided it was time to head to the beach we had been eyeing in the morning. Dog-friendly Seacliff Beach is a short walk from Tantalan Castle. On a Monday evening during the summer holidays, it was very quiet.
To get to the beach, you drive a special road with an automatic barrier. For a fee of £3, you enter a small car park and a short path takes you down to the beach. A large, deserted stretch of soft sand offering spectacular views of Tantallon Castle and Bass Rock.

If you’re a dog lover, you’ll love this, according to a new survey of beaches near Edinburgh which are the best beach spots to take your pooches.
Only 50 minutes from the city, the beautiful Seacliff Beach is the only access point in Scotland. Ranked in the top 10 across the UK and number seven, Scottish entry 7.99 out of 10.

Seacliff Beach is one of the most popular and quiet beaches in the Firth of Forth, with lots of open space and a golden sand perfect for dogs.
With great views of the Firth of Forth, Bass Rock and the stunning ruins of nearby Tantallon Castle, there’s plenty to see and do. Oh, and you should check out the beautiful little port of Gegen.
The best part is that there aren’t many people here and it’s easy to let your dog run wild sometimes and they’ll get bored all the way home.
Dog Friendly Days Out In Scotland
As always, be responsible when picking up after your pooch and make sure the horses are back on the leash if they are active on the beach.
If you want to fill up a bit, the lovely town of North Berwick is just 15 minutes away.
