Zach and I went to college in South/Central Virginia, so we’ve been familiar with the Shenandoah Mountains for several years. We’ve hiked the Navy several times in Shenandoah National Park, but never the Duke. Last year at this time we went to Getaway House DC with the Navy and spent the weekend hiking and visiting local wineries. Needless to say, we went to the Shenandoah Mountains for a weekend with the dogs.
Shenandoah National Park is located along the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, 75 miles from Washington, DC. The park stretches approximately 105 miles from the north entrance in Front Royal to the south entrance near Waynesboro, Virginia. Skyline Drive is the main road through the entire park. It leads to all the hiking trails, lodging, camping and lots of beautiful viewpoints where you can park and enjoy the view.
