Best Vacations With A Dog – There’s something about January that makes me sit down with my calendar and plan my entire trip for next year. It’s so cold and dark outside that it’s incredibly satisfying to curl up with a laptop and plan an adventure.

While we’ve paused our big international travels during the pandemic, we’re loving the Seattle area and a wonderful (and dog-friendly!) weekend getaway. After spending ten years in New York and Chicago, it was fun to go back and rediscover old favorites, as well as see all the new and innovative glamping sites, boutique hotels and unique Airbnbs that have popped up here. Best of all, I loved how many of them welcome dog-friendly options for your stay. I am so happy to have Dave and Lizzie on our vacation.

My New Year’s resolution is to book a dream stay at St Edward’s asap – it should be easy as it’s half an hour’s drive from the city. This historic seminary has been restored as a luxurious, chic retreat located on 326 acres of trails directly on Lake Washington. We spent a perfect weekend at The Lodges at Vashan in January 2020 – and blogged about it here – and the memories kept me going through the first few months of the lockdown. Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest offers three different beautiful cabins in the heart of the National Forest, and all three are pet-friendly for a fee. We had a wonderful Easter weekend in Semiamou in 2019 and I look forward to the opportunity to return to the beautiful countryside and secluded coastline. Just steps from the Canadian border, this resort is the perfect base camp for some of Northern Washington’s best hiking and incredible panoramic coastal views. They’re also very dog-friendly, and pups are welcomed with their own kennels, bed and (at least on our visit) a few souvenirs. Information about dogs here.

I love a unique ride and Winthrop’s Rolling Huts certainly delivers. These tiny homes were designed by Seattle-based Olson Kundik Architects as a modern alternative to mobile homes. I’m obsessed with the gorgeous new Water’s Edge suites at this historic Orcas Island resort, which offer private balconies overlooking the bay. I can already see him curled up there with a book. If you haven’t heard of Tentrr yet, you’re missing out. We stayed with them twice (we blogged here on our trip to Vermont and Maine) and each trip was amazing. Basically, they set up luxury safari tents on unique privately owned land, like this beautiful fruit farm near Meade, Washington. Admittedly, Idaho is within walking distance of Seattle, but we’ll drive any distance to be in this gentle vista. And the little details, like the on-site sauna and antique coffee grinder, melt my heart. Pets are allowed, based on the stair entrance you have to judge if this will be a fun vacation for you or not.
