Best Dog Friendly Resorts Texas – Fall is the perfect time of year to get outdoors for a pet-friendly weekend getaway in Texas. The weather is finally getting colder, but not so cold that you need to pack away your winter gear. Day hikes become not only enjoyable, but also fun, not to mention safer for you and your dog. At night, the temperature drops enough to light a cozy fire under the stars, where you can make s’mores or just snuggle up under the blanket with your pup.
Luckily, San Antonio has plenty of fun places to visit within an easy drive. Whether you’re looking for a full campsite, a luxury cabin, or something in between, there’s something for everyone. If the quarantine and summer months have left you feeling frazzled and restless, it’s time to pack your bags, hop in the car and head to one of these three pet-friendly Texas vacations.

Vanlife Adventures In Big Bend Texas: Part 3
If you spend a lot of time on Instagram, you’ve probably seen this cute little cabin in a remote part of the United States. There are three outposts in Texas, all in close proximity to San Antonio: one outside of Dallas (4.5 hours from SA), one outside of Houston (3 hours from SA), and one outside of Austin/San Antonio (in Wimberley, to be exact, just 1 hour away)!
Despite being in the middle of nowhere, each cabin has a comfortable double bed with beautiful countryside views, a bathroom with shower and toilet, and a mini kitchen with cooking utensils. Best of all, Getaway is super pet friendly, charging only a flat fee of $40 to cover the cost of additional cleaning! They provide food and water bowls, puppy kits, and even a long outdoor pen where you can tether your dog but still give him room to roam.
According to the founders, Getavai was created “to give people time, space and permission to switch off”. Our little cabin in nature provides a respite from the city, technology and work so you can recharge and reconnect with what and who matters most.
If you’re looking for an effortless way to “get away” from it all, this is the perfect weekend for you and your dog!

If you are looking for something a little more nature related, 13 Acres Retreat might be the perfect place for you! I first discovered this hidden gem while looking for a weekend getaway for my husband and 2 year wedding anniversary last winter. This lovely cabin is located on 13 acres of wilderness just outside of Dripping Springs, just an hour and a half from San Antonio.
Each cabin has an air conditioner/heater, a small coffee pot, a comfortable bed with fresh linens, and a beautiful view of the Texas Hill Country. There are two compound toilets on site, but don’t let that put you off! It is beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean! Other amenities include a water cooler for refilling reusable bottles, a sink with dish and hand soap, and a hot shower. However, it is an outdoor shower which is very nice but can be a bit chilly if you visit in the colder months.
There is no shortage of things to do while staying at 13 Acres Retreat. You can wander around the property (note: there are no trails, so it’s an adventure!) or hop in the car and check out some of the nearby state parks, like Pedernales Falls. If hiking isn’t really your (or your dog’s) thing, you can also check out some dog-friendly wineries/breweries within a 20-30 minute drive. My personal favorite is Hawk’s Shadow Winery.
If you’ve never visited Lost Maples in the fall, you’re missing out. Located just under 2 hours from San Antonio, Lost Maples State Natural Area is known as one of the few places in Texas where you can see stunning fall foliage. You have to apply it correctly because the leaves won’t start to change until the temperature drops – usually in mid-October or early November. Texas weather is always unpredictable, but you can check out the garden’s fall leaf color report here.

As the leaves begin to change color, Lost Maples becomes a hive of activity! It is highly recommended to book the campsite in advance – sometimes even a year in advance! Due to COVID, access is even more limited and you must reserve tickets (both camping and day tickets) in advance, either online or by calling the customer service center.
I promise you, it’s worth the effort! In addition to being a beautiful natural feature year-round, Lost Maples has over 10 miles of trails to explore, including a loop that runs along the top of a 2,200-foot cliff. There are 30 campsites with water and electricity and about 50 primitive campsites you can go to, many within walking distance of composting toilets.
If you or your pup don’t like camping, you can definitely make Lost Maples every day. It’s definitely close enough to run out in the morning, enjoy a walk and drive home in the evening. Still, it’s hard to beat a night or two under the stars, especially when it’s cold enough to curl up in a sleeping bag with your pup!

Is this the best log home site in Texas? The Hobbit’s Nest Treehouse is located near Bastrop in Page, Texas. As you might have guessed, the property is Lord of the Rings themed and has lots of little decorative touches to bring the Shire to life.
And best of all, they’re one of the most dog-friendly places you’ll ever find. In fact, the owner lives nearby and their two dogs roam the grounds and will probably come by the tree house to say hello!
A Guide To Pet Friendly Vacations In Every State
There is no wifi here, but there is a fireplace, a toilet, a shower and a small fridge, so I recommend cooking on site and really unplugging. The sounds of nature here are also top notch, especially with that “frog chorus” you’ll hear from the beautiful lily pond overlooking the tree house.
This modern, luxurious retreat is located on the outskirts of Dripping Springs in the heart of the Texas Hill Country. Lucky Arrow Retreat (Earn $10 from Hipcamp New Users) has yurts, cabins and terrace houses available depending on the size of your party and the type of experience you want.
