At nearby Port Crescent State Park, you can spend the day splashing in the crystal blue waters of more than 3 miles of sandy beaches, or hike more than 18 miles of open forest trails that wind over the cliffs and provide clear water.

Dogs are allowed on the beach near the Pinnebog River, which can be accessed via a metal bridge that connects to hiking trails around campus. Pets should be kept on a leash and it is important to remember to clean up after your pet.

One of our favorite dog lovers, Pak’s Backyard, also in Port Austin! They have a great selection of Michigan craft beers, great bar food, and a great atmosphere. They often play live music so you can eat and drink right on the water with your backpack after a long day at the beach!

Just a few hours from the shore of Lake Huron is our favorite stop, Tawas Point! This dog beach is one of the fully fenced areas in Michigan, where dogs can run freely in a designated area. The campground is also dog-friendly, so you can bring your dog for a weekend of fun.

Boathouse Beer Co. & Boozery is another great way to share a patio with loved ones. Located in Tawas Town, they have great food and drink and are right across the street from another small park that is also dog friendly.

If you are looking for a unique experience to enjoy with your dog in Michigan, Mackinac Island is it. Hop on one of the dog-friendly ferries (Star Line or Shepler) to cross the island car-free – a unique experience in itself! While you’re there, you’ll be able to hike over 70 miles of trails and sights, dine at one of our dog-friendly restaurants, and even explore the history of Fort Holmes with your dog. Many shops in the city welcome four-legged guests. Watch out for the sign that says “Dogs Allowed”!

There are several areas in the park where dogs are allowed, including Sand Point beaches, Munising Falls Trail, Miners Falls Trail, Miners Beach, Lake Superior Overlook and Beach, Sable Falls Trail, and the beach.
