Located a few hours east of Maine and at the end of the Appalachian Trail, it was the perfect place to start a tour of Atlantic Canada. We found a great dog-friendly Airbnb here, and the hot tub was perfect after spending months in a van and hiking the AT.

Sussex offers excellent walking in summer and autumn, and skiing in winter. The village is decorated with murals, so take a walk around if you’re interested. Falafel Spot was a local restaurant (the owner was so friendly!). The Bluffs Trail was our favorite place to hike. We loved this city and our Airbnb so much that we stayed here again for one night on our way back to Maine!

Home to the world’s tallest mountain, internationally recognized cuisine (scallops), and dog-friendly national parks, Fundy is a great place to visit.

National park campgrounds were easy to reserve, clean, and affordable. The park has cycling and mountain biking trails to choose from. Matthews Head and Dickson Falls were my favorite trails in the park. Both are dog friendly. There are also many camping sites. We stayed at Chignecto Campground.

Visiting Bryce Canyon National Park With A Dog

The nearby towns of Alma and Hopewell Rocks State Park are where the waves are made! We walked along the Alma coast and were amazed by the two tides. There are many dog-friendly restaurants in the city. Hopewell Rocks is worth the price of admission and two tours. (Admission allows you to experience high tide one day, low tide the next, or vice versa.) It’s truly amazing to see in person!

We spent time in three different locations over 9 days in PEI. This allowed us to explore about half of the island. Another week on the west side of the island will give us time to see a little bit of this beautiful place.

We stayed at Cavendish Campground in the national park. Then go to Campbell’s Cove. It feels like you’re at the edge of the world and is one of my favorite camping places I’ve ever been. And finally, we arrived at Ocean Acres in the quaint village of Murray Harbour. We loved staying in all of these places. Ocean Acres has an on-site restaurant.

This is a place where I can spend some time. (Or forever.) My heart longs to come back here. The first place in PEI that wasn’t dog friendly was my choice. I kayaked alone in the Atlantic Ocean. (We rented kayaks from the awesome group at East Coast Paddle Adventures.) The national park had a few beaches that were sheltered for breeding birds, but there were also plenty of other beaches where dogs could play. go to no way. I kayaked and kayaked in Murray Harbor for the first time in my life! (You can also add another half meter of water ;)!) We wandered around with the dog and he was eating a bone on the veranda of the restaurant.

Dog Friendly Hikes In Colorado

This small Nova Scotia island was where we stayed for three nights between PEI and Cape Breton. We stayed at this beautiful Airbnb right on the beach. At low tide, you could walk directly to the beach. At a nearby state park, I saw a bald eagle dragging an opossum along the beach while I was running. The nearby town of Pictou had the most wonderful family and history at Alladin Syrian Canadian Restaurant. The food was delicious, and as you can imagine, the dockside terrace is dog friendly! In Atlantic Canada, the dog-friendly options are starting to seem endless.

This was in some ways the highlight of the trip. It was a place visited by people from all over the world. It was honestly amazing, but all of Atlantic Canada is so amazing that it would be hard to place one place above the rest. We stayed on Cape Breton Island and National Park for a week. Introducing Jill G’s first experience at Canada’s first campground! (I was nervous, but succeeded after running a few pipes around the camp.)

We stayed at Cheticamp campground the first night and rode horses around the park/island. We’ll stop halfway to Ingonish and again on the other side before returning to New Brunswick. Cheticamp includes camping, nearby Chance Sandwich, and the Freya and Thor galleries and cafes, which we loved! (The Bellingham Washington transplant was really friendly and nice to meet.)

The Skyline Trail is world-famous and the only dog-free hike in all of Atlantic Canada. But Cotopaxi exhausted all other options. This park made me feel like I was visiting one of the largest national parks in the United States. It was huge and it felt like I had stepped onto another planet. This was my first hike since completing the Appalachian Trail in Maine a few weeks ago.

Everything seemed fine for your dog to fetch. Despite concerns about wolves in Cape Breton National Park, predators are also at low risk. Although dog walking trails are not “allowed”, they are great places for dogs to walk. The restaurants all had patios and there was more beach/beach space than anywhere else in North America with constant foot traffic.

I’m sure the winters in Atlantic Canada are harsh. (Everyone told you so.) But you’ll feel a little more comfortable with the HPH Softest Sweat Ever! And recently, hurricanes have become a concern. We left Cape Breton just before anyone else left for the island. But weather problems occur everywhere. I have never been to this area before and am so thankful for the time we had. You can split this trip into smaller excursions or spend more time in the magnificent nature of Nova Scotia or New Brunswick and Newfoundland on PEI’s west coast. Summer and early fall are the best times to visit when the weather is nice.
