Best Dog Friendly Munros – If you need a holiday that gives you a break from the real world, look no further than Scotland. From wild mountain landscapes to Caribbean island beaches, this country has it all. There are hundreds of great outdoor spots for your four-legged friend and, although we can’t list all the great walks on offer, we’ve found some of our favorite dog-friendly walks in Scotland.

A traditional mountain estate, the hills of Balmakara are dotted with slums and dense forests, perfect for exploring with your four-legged friend. Heading up forest paths and open marshes, this walk has great coastal views towards Sky Island. The starting point for the Balmakara and Reraig Circle Walk is the Balmakara Estate Visitor Center near Kyle, which provides excellent insight into the area’s rich agricultural history, as well as information on other walks in the area.

There are many country parks to explore in Scotland. A dog walk at Castle Fraser, located near the village of Inverurie in Aberdeenshire, will take you to the fairytale castle tower at the heart of this National Trust property. There are many trails here, but try joining the Alton Brae and Miss Bristow trails for an easy two-hour walk. In spring, the park’s open trails are dotted with wildflowers.

Dog Stop: Head to the dog-friendly BrewDog bar in Inverurie for a post-walk pint. The only drawback will be the choice of the specified driver…

It wouldn’t be a ‘best dog walks in Scotland’ list without the opportunity to get your hands on a Munro, and this trip includes not one, but both. At 1,214m, Ben Laws in Perthshire is the 10th highest Munro in Scotland and is a good choice for those looking to explore the mountains. Ben Lovers and Beinn Glass Walk is ideal for a trail-ready young dog and his costumed owner.

Kingsbarns and Cambo Range explore some of Fife’s coastal trails. Jog along Cabo’s stunning sandy beaches and run around Kingsbarns golf courses, before heading inland to discover Cabo’s peaceful forest trails. At the end of your trip, why not plop your bum in Fife’s cold North Sea?

Dog-Friendly Pit Stop: The Cheese Toast Shack is a great place to grab a cheese toastie and eat it on the beach.

For a real mountain walk, it doesn’t get much better than Arthur’s Seat from Hollerood Park. When it comes to dog-friendly cities, Edinburgh ranks among the best. But in reality, Hollerood Park is a 650 hectare site with a glorious hilltop, Iron Age fortifications and Bronze Age terraces. So if walking to Arthur’s Place isn’t for you (or your dog), there are plenty of easy dog-friendly trails.

The small town of Aviemore, located at the foot of the Cairngorms, is popular with British skiers. However, in summer, it’s just as good a place for the dog owner, offering walking trails through acres of woodland in the Cairngorms National Park. It’s an easy walk around Loch Morlich, just a few hours.

I love that Loch Lomond is dog friendly – it’s the perfect place for a weekend adventure!

One weekend in April, Haggis, Angus and I explored the east side of Loch Lomond. While most people choose to head to the west side of the lake, we decided to stay on the east which is home to a variety of walks, nature and wildlife.

We were greeted by the best weather of the trip: clear blue skies and calm waters. Angus loves to travel and we love taking him with us on our adventures, and for us Loch Lomond was the perfect base for a weekend getaway.

Although Loch Lomond is dog-friendly, you need to be organized when traveling with your dog. Read on to discover our handy guide to visiting Loch Lomond with your dog!

The best way to explore Loch Lomond is by combining driving and walking. We found that driving on the east side of Loch Lomond gave us more freedom, but the road to Rowardennan is very bumpy, which made us want to drive less!

Loch Lomond focuses a lot on sustainability, so we try to walk as much as possible. One of the best parts of spending time in Loch Lomond is immersing yourself in nature. The West Highland Way runs along the lake on the east side and you can walk anywhere.

Another fun way to explore Loch Lomond is by electric bike. An electric bike charging station has been installed in Drymen Square and you can borrow one at some cafes (including St. Mocha Cafe in Balmaha).

The best way to get to the east side of Loch Lomond is to take the bus from Glasgow to Balloch and then the McGill bus to Balloch. Public transport will take you to Balmaha, so you will have to walk (approximately 2.5 hours) or drive to Rowardennan Lodge.

We stayed at Rowardennan Lodge Youth Hostel, one of the most dog-friendly lodges in Scotland. This lodge was once a hunting lodge and is located on the beautiful shores of Loch Lomond. It has the most stunning views and you can see the lake from most bedrooms and the living room.

Our private room had a view of Loch Lomond which was lovely to wake up to. The bathrooms are shared and the showers are the best I have experienced in a hostel. The wifi is a bit annoying, but I hear it will improve soon. Plus, it’s a place you’ll want to relax without having to scroll through social media!

There is also a large kitchen and plenty of dining space where you can prepare your meals or enjoy a hot home-cooked meal.

You choose a continental breakfast or a hot breakfast. You can also order a three-course meal with us one evening. We had food and bread for lunch, Tikka Masala for main course and chocolate brownie for dessert. It was delicious!

Angus joined us for lunch – we brought him our own plate and he left happily as he enjoyed our food.

I have been on many trips to Scotland and have used these hostels as a base; They are a fantastic option if you are looking for comfortable accommodation at an affordable price.

One of the best things about Hostelling Scotland’s hostels is that they are useful and family-friendly. We met people from all walks of life: young students, retirees traveling the West Highland Way, thirty-somethings (like us) using the hostel as a base for some trips.

If you wish to bring your dog, there is a small charge of £5 for each night your dog stays.

The Clachan Inn is one of our favorite pubs in Scotland. The pub was licensed in 1734, making it the oldest registered pub in Scotland and one of the oldest pubs in Scotland.

The pub area is dog friendly (and in my opinion the best place to sit and eat). The owners and bar staff are lovely – they were very happy to see Angus and gave him lots of treats and glasses of water.

I ordered a delicious Aberdeen Angus burger and Craig had a meat pie. He swears it’s one of the best cakes ever!

This pub has a local feel and holds a special place in my heart. I think it should be.
