We’ve always been hesitant to cross the Zion National Park area on our Utah road trips because, like most national parks, Zion isn’t exactly “dog friendly.” On our last trip, we decided to give it a try and stayed at the friendly Sion White Bison. Located a few miles from the park’s west entrance, we used it as a refuge to traverse the park and explore all the dog-friendly areas on both sides of the entrance. All I can say is that I’m so glad we finally decided to go, even though there aren’t many friendly activities in the park, there are plenty outside.
Dog Friendly Lodging Zion National Park
We stayed at the friendly lodge at Sion White Bison and loved it. Modeled after ancient Anasazi kivas, the dog-friendly lodge is charming and elegant and features a king-size bed, living room with sofa and TV, full kitchen, bathroom, and terrace. have it. dining room. table and fire pit, grill and private fireplace overlooking the beautiful mesas and canyons that surround us!
Visiting Bryce Canyon National Park With A Dog
Zion White Bison has been rated one of the top five pet friendly traps, covered cars, teepees and cliff shelters in America and I can’t wait to plan a return trip already! Although Zion National Park itself doesn’t have many pet-friendly trails, the drive from the park is awesome and there are TONS of pet-friendly activities on both sides of the park.
Snow Canyon State Park – (note that there is a park entry fee for most trails) We saw red rock everywhere in this park and had a great time checking out the trails, caves, petrified sand dunes, petroglyphs and small holes. canyons.
Pink Coral Sand Dunes State Park – (admission required) These dunes are thought to be 10,000 to 15,000 years old and you can rent an ATV or sand board here to ride the dunes, but we like to travel and play. and sand!
Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness/Kanab Area: The 112,500-acre area of wilderness is filled with hiking trails, canyons, rock formations, and sculpted mountains, and the options for dog-friendly hikes are endless! It was a bit wet, the road was washed out a bit, the rivers were flooded during our visit, so we had to make some last minute changes to the plan, but it was not rare what are we going to do here!
Dog Friendly Utah Road Trip
After a day of exploring, we would return to the rooftop deck and watch the sunset from the rooftop fireplace. The Zion White Bison property is full of character and even has a herd of white bison (a calf was born two days after we left) to visit. The white bison is a very rare and sacred animal and only a generation ago, one in ten million bison was born white. It is now estimated that one in a million people are white. The resort is designed to be a sanctuary for these sacred animals and it is so much fun to spend time with them!
