Every year we try to find some new places in the UK. After visiting Edinburgh last year in September, we checked Cornwall off our to-do list. This year we also decided not to rent a car and to make the most of our 4 days in Cornwall we chose Penzance as the basis for our 4 day stay as it was served by several buses and trains. Due to the limitations of public transportation, we have limited the scope of our exploration to cover the Penwith Peninsula, just west of Cornwall.
In this post you will find our travel routes and schedules, reviews of our trips and tips for your own departure.
Our dog experience and adventures in West Cornwall Day 1: London Paddington to Penzance by train with your dog and Day 1
Dog Friendly Cornwall Weekend Planner
We boarded the train at 09:03 from London Paddington on a sunny Saturday morning, arriving at 2:27 in Penzance. The train was on time and during the trip we were able to admire some of the beautiful views from the windows, including Brunel’s Royal Albert Bridge. However, after Plymouth, the weather changed suddenly and became so foggy and wet that from the train we could not see the sea a few meters away.
Our host kindly picked us up from the station with his car and in a few minutes we arrived at Airbnb (more on that at the bottom of this post) if he showed us our room and we met Beautiful cocker spaniel Bertie. Seven. One-year-olds have a passion for food. Our room was cozy and comfortable and the house had a nice flower garden also surrounded by Argo and Bertie. On the first night, instead of eating out, we opted for dinner with our Airbnb host (for an extra fee) and he gave us lots of tips to explore Penzance and the surrounding area for the next few days.
We plan to go to St. Michael’s Mount After leaving the bag on Airbnb, but due to the bad weather we thought it was not a good condition to visit that particular attraction and check out our plans.
We decided to visit Penzance instead. We start walking and stop at one place to ask for some guidance. He was very welcoming but advised us not to “get too excited” and said there was not much to see or do in Penzance. We walked around the main streets, including Chapel Street and Promenade Street, and found that the shops closed early and had a drink at the historic Turk’s Head Bar, a place for dogs (and where we found beer). Really cheap there). At Penzance there is also the Art Deco Jubilee Pool, which in October hosts an annual dog swim that we visit the next day.
