Huntington Dog Beach is definitely our favorite dog beach in Southern California and we would come here every weekend if we lived close together. The dog beach area is clearly marked and we have no problem finding parking when we arrive before lunch.

We spent the weekend in Long Beach and stayed just a few miles from Rosie’s lovely hotel on Dog Beach.
When we started Googling for beaches in the Los Angeles area, Rosie’s Dog Beach was always at the top of the search results. It is currently also the only legal dog beach in LA County.
When we arrived at around 9:30 am on Saturday morning, there was plenty of space for us to park and let our puppies play. For some reason, puppies are not very excited about this beach.
There is nothing wrong with it and it is clean but feels a bit runny. The sand in the water is like mud, and the dog’s claws and feet look very muddy every time it enters and exits the water.

This is our preference for many reasons. First, there is no parking in the area, so your only option is to find a parking space on the surrounding streets.
It is a long way to reach the dog beach and when you get there there is very little space.
Also behind you is a high barbed wire fence that protects the US Navy station. It seems like a lot of effort to travel from the parking lot to the beach with medium size and limited space.
