We set out to find the best dog beaches in Southern California and to our surprise, our options were very limited. There are many beaches, but we have puppies that love freedom in the water, so beaches are a must.
Over the past few months, we have been exploring dog beaches in Southern California and categorized them from our favorites to our favorites.
The Best Dog Friendly Hotels In The U.s
Huntington Dog Beach is definitely our favorite dog beach in Southern California and we would come here every weekend if we lived close together. The dog beach area is clearly marked and we have no problem finding parking when we arrive before lunch.
Its clean length and deep water create the perfect atmosphere for our children. It was Zooey’s first time swimming and she had a lot of fun getting in and out of the water.
A great non-profit team runs this beach and does a great job of keeping it “free” so our puppies can run and play freely.
We were staying at the Hilton Beachfront Resort in Santa Barbara and a friend suggested we check out Hendry Beach. Crystal really likes the scenery here.
Best Pet Friendly Hikes In California
The cliffs are amazing and there are plenty of beaches for everyone. The error starts from the east and has a clear sign to point you in the right direction.
Here we saw a restaurant overlooking the beautiful Arroyo Burro beach; But they do not accept dogs. Do not worry because there are many options for dogs near Santa Barbara.
Ocean Avenue and Stage Road, Carmel, CA 93922 Parking: Yes, but limited parking: Yes, but bathrooms are limited: Yes
This is the first beach we visited and the farthest from LAX. For some reason, this dog beach has always been listed as a Southern California area. However, Carmel is actually part of Northern California and closer to San Francisco than Los Angeles.
Expert Advice On How To Travel With Your Dog
Because Carmel-by-the-Sea is a dog paradise and is rated as the # 1 dog-loving city in America, we decided to go ahead and put it on our list.
We stayed at a dog hotel nearby, so we decided to drive to Carmel Beach because parking is limited. The view here is amazing and the white sand is fine on our feet.
Sandy especially loves sand here and is very excited when his little claws touch the sand. We think the white sand reminds us of Florida.
This is the most popular dog beach I have ever been to. We arrived at about 9am and were surprised to learn that the parking lot was full of lines coming out of the parking lot.
Dog Friendly Hotels Santa Monica
Fortunately, we have found a place where the key is to be patient, as someone always returns to their car to leave.
It gets a lot of tourists, beach volleyball players and dog owners, so even though the parking lot is large, it is full.
We like how big the dogs are and how low the water is for our puppies to enjoy the waves. There are also lots of giant rocks here, so if your child likes to jump on the rocks, this is a great place.
Zooey loves to jump and climb rocks, so she enjoys being here. He enjoys rock climbing on the sand, joking with Zooey and chasing other dogs.
Ultimate Dog Lover’s Guide To Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park
We spent the weekend in Long Beach and stayed just a few miles from Rosie’s lovely hotel on Dog Beach.
When we started Googling for beaches in the Los Angeles area, Rosie’s Dog Beach was always at the top of the search results. It is currently also the only legal dog beach in LA County.
When we arrived at around 9:30 am on Saturday morning, there was plenty of space for us to park and let our puppies play. For some reason, puppies are not very excited about this beach.
There is nothing wrong with it and it is clean but feels a bit runny. The sand in the water is like mud, and the dog’s claws and feet look very muddy every time it enters and exits the water.
Dog Friendly Big Bear Activities
Still not a bad beach for dogs, but it just does not give us or the dogs as much excitement as other beaches.
This is our preference for many reasons. First, there is no parking in the area, so your only option is to find a parking space on the surrounding streets.
It is a long way to reach the dog beach and when you get there there is very little space.
Also behind you is a high barbed wire fence that protects the US Navy station. It seems like a lot of effort to travel from the parking lot to the beach with medium size and limited space.
The 6 Best Off Leash Dog Beaches In Southern California
I mean, many of our friends like this beach and recommend it. If you live nearby or visit on a day that is not too busy, it may be a better experience.
We hope our review helps you and your puppy plan their next dog beach adventure.
Want to share some hidden beaches in Southern California that are not on this list? Our kids will love it if you can share it in the comments below. Palm Springs, California is located in the Coachella Valley of the Sonoran Desert, about 100 miles east of Los Angeles. A popular resort town for many years, Palm Springs has been known for its natural hot springs, hotels, restaurants, golf courses, sunny weather and, of course, the intimacy of dogs.
Palm Springs is constantly evolving with new shops, restaurants, hotels and neighborhoods, as well as a development on the north side known as the Uptown Design area. The annual Coachella and Stagecoach festivals draw attention to the desert city, and the January Palm Springs International Film Festival attracts a lot of names and crowds.
Of The Best Dog Friendly Rv Parks In America
Greater Palm Springs includes eight cities in addition to Palm Springs: Hot Springs, Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage, Palm Wells, Indian Wells, LaQuinta Indio and Coachella. Tourism is the country’s largest contributor to the regional economy. I recommend staying in Palm Springs and exploring other cities by car. The Palm Desert has an outdoor mall and can be great for Indio / Coachella photos or if you attend a festival (without dogs).
I’ve been to great places for a lot of dogs, and when I say Palm Springs is my busiest city – I mean it! It’s hard to explain, but wherever we go with Ruby, it’s just a feeling of kindness, and we hope it is reflected in this comprehensive guide.
The weather in Palm Springs is really nice all year round, but winter and early spring are the best times to visit. Palm Springs feel special during the winter months from November to January, while the rest of the country has a cooler climate. And snow.
