What Should You Do With Your Dog And Cat When You Go On Vacation?

From Cashiers/Highlands, to Asheville. One of my favorites is Maggie Valley because it has a variety of dog-friendly apartments for rent, plus it’s close to the Blue Ridge Parkway and has tons of hiking opportunities for you and your dog. Asheville is also nearby, with great dog-friendly restaurants.

One of my favorite road trips with my husband and Rocky was a trip down the east coast to Ocracake Island south over the banks, stopping for a few days at several places along the way.

Whatever you want, whether it’s spending time on the beach, enjoying the history or culture of an area, fine dining, sightseeing, camping, hiking, or just enjoying a quiet place to relax, Fado is there. There is plenty to see and do with the dogs. During your second break at home when you don’t need it? Best Dog Friendly Weekend Getaways In Virginia

National parks are great places to go with dogs, and Acadia National Park is one of the best. There are more than 100 kilometers of trails to explore, and a free dog bus takes travelers around the park and island.

Check out trails like the Precipice Trail, the Champlain Mountain and Beehive Loop Trail, and the Gorham Mountain Trail. Campgrounds such as Blackwoods and Seawall welcome pets to visit each other. Just outside the national park boundary is Long Pond, a 1000 hectare park where dogs can run free.

There is a restaurant within the park boundaries and good news – pets are welcome! Visitors to Acadia National Park have been lining up for the spectacular views and attractions of Jordan Pond House since 1893. If you are visiting in summer, don’t miss “Tea on the Lawn”, a delicious tradition for which. 40 years is a long time

Travelers planning their New England road trip with the comfort of their pets in mind may want to consider a few days on Cape Cod. Dog-friendly activities and attractions await you and your furry companion, such as the beautiful beaches of Cape Cod National Seashore and Nost Light Beach, where they can swim in the shallow waters.

In addition to dog-friendly beaches, Cape Cod is known for its pet-friendly restaurants and shops. After a day in the sun, head to Barnstable Brewing and Cape Cod Beer, both in Hyannis, and relax in their outdoor setting with a local beer with your little one. Mashpee Commons is a charming downtown district with doors open to everyone, including loved ones.

On the list of pet-friendly attractions, Bar Harbor is high. It’s perfect to do, starting with a hike in Acadia National Park (see #1). Relax together on a two-hour narrated boat trip in Frenchman Bay, with spectacular views of the Maine coast, Acadia National Park and the islands of Frenchman Bay. 

For dinner, many restaurants offer pet-friendly meals. Leary’s Landing Irish Pub, Finback Ale House and Cottage St. All pubs are known to carry Fido.

Without a doubt, Newport offers one of the best dog-friendly vacations in the country. Start with a 3.5-mile hike on the Cliff Walk for sweeping views of the Atlantic. Because of its proximity to the shield, it is better to keep your furry friend on a leash. Stop for lunch at Sardella’s Restaurant or O’Brien’s Pub, which offers a hot dog and water menu for everyone.

A Road Trip With Dogs: Dog Friendly Destinations

Day or evening, explore Newport Harbor on a pet-friendly cruise from Gansett Cruises, a popular local operator that offers 75- and 90-minute tours. Finally, a slide down a charming waterfall is a great way to end a great day with your best friend.

Hiking, dining, and wine tasting with your dog are all available in Asheville, making it one of our favorite dog-friendly vacation spots. The Blue Ridge Parkway, which runs through the city, is home to many pet-friendly hiking trails, such as the Mountain to Sea Trail and the Curgy Gardens. Historic Biltmore Estate allows dogs off-leash in designated outdoor areas, including several beautiful gardens.

When you’re ready to eat, Wicked Weed Brewing, White Duck Taco Shop and Sunny Point Café are known for delicious food and pet-friendly policies. Asheville’s wine scene is also poised to take over, with vineyards like Edson Farms welcoming wine lovers and their dogs.

Burlington is the perfect pet-friendly weekend getaway, especially if you like to stay active. Start by riding or walking the Burlington Bike Trail, a scenic route that stretches along Lake Champlain. Head to Church Street Market, a pedestrian-only area with shops, restaurants and street performers. You and your dog can enjoy your active environment – as long as they are on a leash.

Pet Friendly Weekend Getaways

Waterfront Park is a great place to take a walk, have a picnic, or just relax and enjoy the scenery. If you’ve had enough of nature, order a beer at Zero Gravity Craft Brewery or a snack at the Burlington Farmers Market.

Vacations with dogs are even better, which is why Portland is a great destination if you plan to bring your four-legged friend. Stroll along the Eastern Promenade until you reach East End Beach, which has pet-friendly beaches and outdoor play areas.

Many dining establishments accept pets. Buy a famous sausage at The Thirsty Pig or sit on the beach at Portol Restaurant and Pub. The Westin Portland Harbor View is a popular place for dog owners to stay a night or two while visiting this up-and-coming seaside city.

One of the best dog vacations you can take is a trip to Martha’s Vineyard. Start with some activities at State Beach or Lambert Cove Beach, where your child can run, play and swim. Check out landmarks as you walk, such as the Edgartown Lighthouse and Gingerbread House.

Jockey’s Ridge State Park, the largest natural ridge system on the East Coast, is a desirable destination for outdoor enthusiasts traveling with pets. Be sure to bring plenty of water and stamina, as this trip is not for the faint of heart.

If you want to rent a car in Richmond for a road trip to Asheville, stop in downtown Greensboro. Begin your immersion in nature with a tour of the 17-acre farm by bike along the Atlantic and Yadkin Greenway, a scenic trail that follows a system of old railroad tracks.
