Dog Friendly Day Trips – This tour is called “Lincoln’s List” because this trail is made with our furry friends.
Our dog, Lincoln, has been with us since 2019 and is a big part of why we love to travel. Let’s just say, jumping in the car is the easiest way to travel with him (and we take Lincoln everywhere).
Dog Friendly Day Trips
Favorite travel destinations in the past 3 years and what they would choose if they could plan our road trip.
Dog Friendly Yosemite Day Trip
(2) woods, hiking, and more time outside (and they may tell you that less people but more spray and smells are better);
(3) Beaches and lakes where water is easily accessible and cool from breathable sand and mud, and
So we thought about our travel bucket list and included this road trip on our Lincoln wish list. If you’re looking for dog-friendly travel ideas because you have a dog that wants to do everything you do on a trip, this is for you!
Lincoln takes you on this road to New England because the summer and fall temperatures are wonderful, there are plenty of outdoor activities, and here you’ll find one of the most beautiful parks in the world.
Best Dog Friendly Days Out Around Adelaide
This itinerary is similar to our Wicked Good: 10-Day NE Road Trip itinerary, but only with top stops and ideas for bringing the kids!
In the summer, take advantage of the longer daylight hours and warmer temperatures you’ll find in other parts of the country this time of year. Or take a road trip in the fall to take advantage of the amazing fall foliage in one of the world’s best places for leaf spotting.
We are spending 5 months in the 2022 travel season in Ontario and New England starting in July in VT, early August on the Schoodic Peninsula in Acadia National Park, for three weeks in mid to late. August, a month in Campton, NH in September, three weeks in Ellsworth, ME in early October, and three weeks in Attleboro, MA in late October. (We also spent three weeks in Ontario at the beginning of our trip.)
There’s never a bad time to be in New England this month. Sure, the summer months can be warm at night, but make sure your rental has the right climate, and you’ll be fine. (To be fair, we say that as people who live in Texas, we have a higher tolerance for heat than people who live in the north year-round. Maybe less patience, ha!).
Unique Pet Friendly Day Trips In Arizona
However, we recommend that if you want to plan a road trip for the beautiful autumn leaves, aim to go in the second week of October. Even the most popular spots for foliage can be very busy (IE Kancamagus Highway and Stowe, VT), the views are worth it!
RTL Tip: Want to spend more time walking or on the water during your trip? Go in July or August. Do you want to walk through the autumn leaves with a hot apple cider in hand? Go in October. Want warmer weather but fewer crowds? Come back in September.
There is no doubt that Lincoln enjoyed the trips he could take because they were easy to get to. If you’re going to drive anywhere on this road, we recommend it here. Drive to the nearest stop on this road and make your home.
However, if you’re not coming here by car and you have a nice dog on board, you can fly into Boston Airport to pick up a rental car after landing. If you are flying, we recommend modifying this route slightly and driving from Boston > Lake Placid > Stowe > Lincoln, NH > Acadia National Park > Portland > Boston.
Day Trip: Seal Beach & Huntington Dog Beach
Note: If you live too far to drive anywhere on this road, your child can’t get on the plane (not even Lincoln, unless he’s flying separately in the seat next to us, ha!). We know in the comments below where to stay, and we asked Lincoln to compile a list near the starting point.
We recommend that you stay at a different location at each point of your journey. You can search for campsites near each location or stay in nearby towns.
For Lincoln, NH, consider Pemi River or Lost River Canyon Campgrounds in Lincoln City. (Can’t find anything in Lincoln? Look to Campton, NH, just 20 miles south. We spent a good month in one of Campton’s Red Sleigh Cabins.)
For Lake Placid, consider Rollins Pond Campground, Assable Chasm Campground, or Lake Placid Village. (Want a great view? Find a condo in Lake Placid Village
Pet Friendly Things To Do In Northern New Mexico
Mirror lake Mirror Lake Inn has dog-friendly rooms and a restaurant with a dog-friendly patio. Can’t find anything in Lake Placid? Try nearby Wilmington.)
For Stowe, consider Smugglers’ Notch State Park or the town of Stowe. (You can also check it out about 40 minutes away in Burlington. Downtown Burlington is very dog friendly!)
For Acadia National Park, consider Blackwoods Campground or the town of Bar Harbor. (Can’t find anything there? Try Ellsworth, ME. If you end up in Ellsworth, check out the Blue Hill Mountain Hike for a Day.!)
Lincoln (the city, not to be confused with our dog, has the same name) is located in the middle of the White Mountains of New Hampshire. This makes it a great place to start your dog-friendly journey.
Our List Of Dog Friendly Day Trips From London
You can spend the weekend exploring this area of New Hampshire because there are so many dog-friendly hikes and activities nearby! (We spent a month here and couldn’t do and see everything on the list!)
But since we only plan one day to enjoy the White Mountains on this trip, here are the best tips for it.
This is a bonus because you can drive Kancamagus Road from Portland to Lincoln. (So, every time you go on a trip, come back to this section. If you don’t travel all the way, consider driving the two hours there via the Kancamagus Road in time to Lincoln.)
If you visit in the fall, Kancamagus Highway is one of the most scenic roads of your entire trip. And if you don’t visit in the fall, that’s okay
Dog Friendly Fall Day Trip To Half Moon Bay
The Kancamagus Highway is a 34-mile drive between Lincoln, NH, and Conway, NH. This is one of New Hampshire’s most popular drives and one of the best places in the United States to view fall foliage. Although there are many views and trails along this beautiful drive that will keep you busy for the entire trip, we recommend stopping at a few views without any hikes on this drive. (We’ve got something better for next time!) Note: Visiting in the fall? get up This drive gets crowded early, so drive the night before or get up early to avoid long lines and heavy traffic on the way to your destination. The Kancamagus Highway is great, but not the only activity for the day!
Get yourself and your child out of the car and into the woods! Hiking was one activity that kept us busy during our month in New Hampshire. We were exploring every weekend and many weekend nights. Spending time outdoors is one of the best things to do in New Hampshire.
You can find all the great hikes in New Hampshire here, but if you want a great deal, we recommend going to Mount Welch-Dickey. The 4.4-mile loop is a half-day hike with sweeping mountain views. It’s dog-friendly, it’s a great activity, and it’s a lot of fun as you navigate different terrains between rock faces and forest trails.
If you’re looking for this hike by any means, check out the Welch-Dickey Loop Trail (not “Welch Mountain Rock Ledge” or “Welch and Dickey Mountains”). After all the winding roads you will get a view of the rock formation
Guide To A Pet Friendly Road Trip
Welch and Dickey Mountain. We recommend walking clockwise to climb the steepest part. (If you visit in the fall when it’s raining or the leaves are on the ground, it’s best. Take your time, the ground can be slippery.)
Do you have a dog friend? Absolutely. Everything on this tour is Lincoln (dog) approved! Note that there is a steep part of this hike in exposed rocks.
