Dog Friendly Travel Trailers – Dogs are a wonderful part of the Timberleaf family. From the shop floor to the back yard, dogs are essential to the caravanning business. Many people have successfully camped with all types of dogs: large, small, puppies, senior dogs, dogs and dogs that need to stay on top of dogs.
Here are five things to remember and prepare before you go with your dog

Food, water, and medicine: This may seem obvious, but don’t forget food, extra water, and any medications for your dog. Treat food and medicine like human food – put them in a bear box, tongue box, or locked car out of the reach of criminals and bears.

You mess up! Be prepared for dirt, mud, dog hair and every mess you can think of. Most things can be handled with a few old towels, extra water, and biodegradable soap. But if your dog sleeps in the trailer with you, you’ll want to have a fully enclosed, enclosed mattress and storage sheet. Dogs may eat grass or other things that upset their stomachs in the campsite. If you have to make the bed in the middle of the night, you want clean sheets and a dry mattress. Clean up dog poop like any other preparation – don’t leave anything behind.
Sleeping: There are many ways to sleep with your dogs. Some people sleep on two 50-lb. The dog in the trailer. We’ve seen people make dog beds with built-in shelves at the end of the bed. Some make a dedicated dog bed in the back seat of a car or truck, and others create a fenced sleeping area outside the trailer.
Safety: For starters, dogs must be vaccinated and receive flea, tick and heartworm preventatives. They must be microchipped and wear a collar and tag. You need to know your dog and know that it is safe for your dog to leave the campsite. If you’re sure your dog can roam safely, have him wear a bear collar so you (and bears and other critters) can hear your dog coming at night with the light collar on.
Heat: Prepare hot or cold. Small dogs are more susceptible to cold – bring a dog jacket or extra blanket in case it gets cold. Dogs don’t sweat, so when it’s hot, be sure to drink plenty of water and provide shade for your canine family.

Simply put, we love camping with dogs. The photos in this listing were taken at the August 2021 Timberleaf Jamboree outside of Leadville, CO. Share pictures of your dog on Instagram and Facebook with the @ tag. Yes, we looked at the cat litter. It sounds… challenging, but we want to know if you’ve successfully camped with your cat! We no longer travel full time, and part of that change, as you may have noticed, is that our lives revolve around the dogs. Here are our thoughts on choosing the right campervan for us
Our dogs comments below are, by nature, opinions, and you should find an RV with a floor plan and features that work for you.
First, we have to make a decision about the big issue. As for the size of the machine, we knew we wanted it to be “any grocery store parking lot, any gas station” small. We knew we didn’t want a camper shell, for a number of reasons, but long steps seemed like a bad idea for medium-sized dogs.
We looked briefly at the B+/C rate, and thought seriously about LTV unity. We ditched the C section completely because most of them are still in the “we have to tow the car” size range and the little morphy bed units just don’t have any room to move around in the bed. . On the other hand, we climbed a 19 foot Revel which is probably too small for us to relax, especially for seating. We finally settled on 21-foot vans: tall enough to have plenty of room inside, short enough to get out within a few feet of the parking lot. In practice, we usually set two places together, but it’s better if we don’t

Since we value our sleeping comfort, we felt that we didn’t like the position of the back sofa leaning against the bed. There’s no way all these pillows are going to work on a soft surface. We don’t want to waste time stocking sheets or making the bed every night. For a long time we thought that we would go to the Travato 59G with a corner Morphy bed: it has a very good storage surface under the bed, which is used when protecting the door and the back. From the propane cooler to knowing the details like the 2019 model year – I really liked it (Tommy).
Reading other people’s experiences with the 59G finally convinced us that the corner bed was not for us. It’s too high for our dogs to jump on their own, and our dogs are often too heavy to lift (Lily is 65+ pounds and I have to lift her into the Jeep, just in case). If you have pets of the right size, they will look very different. For us, although we always force the dogs to sleep on the floor, they pile up at the bottom, you have to organize them from high beds, and there is a lot of tail to kick. And with our new addition, we now have three dogs in the 50-65 pound range – they take up a lot of space and at least one of them is guaranteed to be there.
Because of all of the above, I like the floor plan with two beds and a center console, although the rear doors open ridiculously to the poor.
Many vans with two beds turn it into one big bed by putting a table top in the middle, but I doubt we do. We like to keep our nightly schedule short and simple, check-in/check-out procedures.
Rv, Cottage Or Tent With The Dog… What’s Your Preference For Dog Friendly Travel?
We plan to leave our bed during the day, covered with some kind of solar cover, and in the evening the sun will double as a dog bed on the floor.
When looking at reviews, we chose the Travato 59K and model year 2019 or later because of all the extras they have as standard. Newer models are more dog-friendly: from 2020.5 the running boards have loops to attach the leash. We decided to let someone else take the first year’s discount and bought a bunch of unused bindings.
We chose to remove the Volta Lithium system to save costs and because we are not fully functional. No lithium means the AC won’t turn on if we leave the dogs in the parking lot. We install lithium batteries later as a DIY project if we need them for that application. We expect to travel more than our A class for regular use, so we believe we will pay more for driving. And we have a day for the basics and a generator if we need it, if we stop for a long time.
One of the biggest mistakes we can make to give you an idea of how much we love 59km is that the outdoor shower has no hot water, so any muddy dogs are bathed in cold water. That’s not a big deal.

Used 59 K. We’ve come up with a few options that we really like: heated tanks and glass windows. Tank heaters (“warm money” in Winnebago words) help in the winter, and the 2019 Travato fresh water hoses are already in the kit to prevent freezing. Casement windows allow us to open the windows even in heavy rain, and can be securely locked while partially open. Similarly, the Travato ceiling fan has a rain cover and can be left running in the rain. A quick trip of 1,300 km, the van is now ours, and slowly the dogs are getting used to it. We are beginning to find empirical answers to some of our open questions.
I’m not sure how the door will play, but I think the dogs will be good, and behave when the door is opened.
Delta is still in the process of learning to protect, and she will slip like a squirrel when she tries to escape, but she is making great progress in her patience.
We were worried that the dogs might need to “turn their backs” in the hall, but
