Dog Friendly Vacations Oklahoma

We originally went to Davis hoping to see Turner Falls. After paying the entrance fee, we were very disappointed (filth, big people, parking, etc.) and we turned right and went back to the cozy cabin.

Dog Friendly Weekend Trips From Oklahoma City

This led us to look for other fun things to do with our dog in the Chickasaw National Forest…and we were pleasantly surprised. First of all, don’t forget to rent a cozy cabin (we found a great dog house on Airbnb in Sulphur). After settling into the cabin, you can head to Broome Beach for a great view. Afterwards, cool off along the Travertine River and end the night with a sunset cruise around Lake Arbuckles.

The Wichita Mountains are home to unique rock formations, bison crossings, prairie dogs, and a charming lakeside town. Just 1.5 hours from Oklahoma City, it’s the perfect getaway for adventure lovers! Start your weekend trip by walking The Narrows. It is a 2.7 round trip with beautiful scenery. When entering the canyon, there are large rocks that can be difficult for dogs. We are a little early.

After your first hike, check out 18 more hiking trails, hike by the lake, check out the prairie dog town for cute animals, even bison and elk! After a day of sightseeing, head to Medicine Park for a dog-friendly dinner at the Riverfront Cafe and a stroll through this charming town. End the night with a sunset view of Mount Scott.

While I couldn’t find a dog-friendly shelter in Medicine Park, we found plenty of options in nearby Lawton!

Oklahoma — Hike With Your Dog

Dallas may not be the most dog-friendly place, but there are a few stops worth checking out!

Start your weekend in Dallas with a trip to the city’s Clyde Warren Park. Here you can borrow board games, eat and people watch from the many food trucks. After lunch, hike the Katy Trail (stop at the Katy Trail Icehouse for a delicious margarita).

Another day in Dallas, check out one of the self-proclaimed Let’s Roam scavengers around town. Since you’re spending the day downtown, I recommend the Deep Ellum Mural Hunt! After your scavenger hunt, check out Cedar Ridge State Park or Rockledge Park for a hike!

If you’re looking for old Texas vibes, Fort Worth is the place for you! Spend the first day strolling the streets of the Fort Worth Stockyards, window shopping, and watching the daily Running of the Cows (held daily at 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.). You can also enjoy a delicious barbecue on the dog-friendly BBQ Riscky terrace…you won’t be disappointed.

Broken Bow Pet Friendly Cabins

After your day at the Stockyards, paddle the Trinity River the next morning with Backwoods Paddlesports. After your adventure, head to Fort Worth Water Parks to relax with your pup. End the weekend at the Coyote Drive-in.

Broken Bow is the perfect getaway for families, couples, or individuals looking for a weekend getaway! With countless cabins to choose from (from rustic to extreme chic), you’ll never want to leave.

If you get away from the cabin, you can rent a boat, go horseback riding, zipline, and of course go hiking on Broken Bow Lake! I recommend hiking Friend’s Trail Loop (2.5 miles) and Lookout Mountain Loop (4.9 miles).

Imagine secluded spots with no cell service, natural swimming holes, peaceful dirt roads, and epic hikes. Sounds great…huh? If so, head to the Ozark National Forest in northwest Arkansas. Collect the current book and all the board games for a vacation in the forest!

While there are many hikes to choose from, I recommend going to Whitakers Point (pictured) and Glory Hole Falls. Also, ask your airbnb host or other locals about any hidden swimming holes! (We stayed in a rustic cabin near Pettigrew and there was a swimming hole across the road!)

Fans of Joanna and Chip Gaines (Fixer Upper) will enjoy a trip to Waco, Texas. They have created a unique place in Siloen called Magnolia Market. Here you can shop (with your pup), people watch, sample food trucks, find great photos, and experience unique events.

If you want to extend your vacation, head 1.5 hours northwest to Glen Rose, Texas, where you’ll find Dinosaur Valley State Park. Amazing park with several rides and real dinosaur tracks!

Hot Springs National Park is one of the most unique national parks in the United States. It is the whole center and has baths, city tours and spring water. While actual bathtubs aren’t dog-friendly, they’re pretty cool to look at from the outside, and you can bring your pooch into the awesome bathroom for a cool soak (made with spring water, of course).

Even better than the national park is the beauty of its surroundings, the Ouachita National Forest! Here you can see the beautiful Lake Ouachita Park, walk around Garvan Gardens and find more swimming holes. Read all about a weekend in Ouachita here (it’s one of my favorite places!)
