Traveling with our dogs gave us the opportunity to explore parts of the city we had never been to before! And the places to visit – as well as the places to avoid – quickly became clear.
The French Quarter is the historic heart of New Orleans, known for its lively nightlife and colorful buildings with cast iron balconies. It’s a fun area to walk, with parades in the streets, great architecture and dog-friendly shops.
Here you will find Jackson Square, where street performers entertain the crowds in front of St. Louis Cathedral. and peaceful neighborhoods and quiet streets leading to the (not dog-friendly) French Market.

Dogs are not allowed in Jackson Square. But it’s still fun to walk around the edges and admire all the street art for sale. and enjoy St. Louis Cathedral from different angles.
Established in 1862 and located across from Jackson Square, Cafe du Monde is a must in New Orleans! They are open 24 hours a day except Christmas Day. French-style beignets and chicory coffee make a perfect breakfast or lunch or dinner.
Dogs are not allowed in the covered seating area, but there are tables outside the fence where you can sit with your pooch. Or grab a seat on a park bench in the nearby square.
Bourbon Street jazz clubs, Cajun restaurants and the French Quarter which is quintessential New Orleans with an exciting bar scene. There is no place for dogs, unless they like being kicked by drunk people.

Broussard’s Restaurant & Patio – The beautifully landscaped patio at Broussard’s is as popular as its unique blend of Creole, French, Caribbean, Indian and Spanish cuisine. Dogs on leashes are allowed at outdoor tables as long as the patio is not reserved by a private party.
Café Amelie – This full-service restaurant offers seasonal and local cuisine in the historic and elegant courtyard of the Princess of Monaco. Dogs welcome in the park on a leash.
Dat Dog – How can you not have a restaurant with “dog” in the name! However, in this case “dog” means “hot dog”. Dat Dog’s artfully prepared sausages, hot dogs (including vegetarian, vegan and fish), hamburgers and chicken (fried, grilled or slathered in buffalo sauce) are simply exquisite. Pets are welcome in the outdoor seating area.
Herbs isn’t just one of the best dog-friendly restaurants in New Orleans. This is one of the best restaurants in town. When you book, make sure you let them know you’re bringing your dog and ask for an outside table.
The Best Dog Friendly Adventures In Florida
You can walk most of New Orleans, but City Park is worth a visit. It covers 1,300 hectares and is recognized throughout the country as an archetypal urban green space. It is home to the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Botanical Gardens, the Sculpture Garden and more.
Pets on leashes are welcome to enjoy the entire grounds with you. So plan a picnic on the lawn under 600-year-old live oak trees. Walk around the big lake. Or stop for a snack at the Morning Call Coffee Stand, located at the intersection of Canal Boulevard and City Park Avenue.
“City Bark” is a 4.5 acre fenced dog park in City Park. But the dog park requires a permit (or a temporary permit for visitors) to ensure that all dogs are properly vaccinated. So you must stop by the Park Administration Building with your dog’s vaccination records Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Or download the license application online. There are toilets on site, separate areas for small and large dogs, water fountains (both human and canine), washing stations and cooling huts.
