Dog Friendly Glamping Near Me With Hot Tub – Shepherd’s Retreats are two Shepherd’s Huts in Northumberland. Situated within walking distance of Beadnell (home to great pubs, a great dog beach and plenty of water sports, restaurants and shops) and a short drive from Bamburgh and Seahouses, it’s an ideal base for exploring some of the best parts of . coast of Northumberland.
There are two cabins here – one with four beds and the other with two. We stayed in the Sandpiper which sleeps four. Each cottage has its own garden and facilities, but there is a gate between them if you wish to rent both.
Dog Friendly Glamping Near Me With Hot Tub
Usually a minimum stay of 2 nights and prices are around £240-£290 for 2 nights and include a welcome pack (cleaning products, chocolates, wine and fire), use of your own hot tub, all bed linen with towels and WiFi. We had a lovely stay and think the Sandpiper is the perfect base for exploring Beadnell.
Luxury Glamping And Unique Places To Stay
We were visiting with our two boys and only had a few negatives to remember – the first being that there is a bit of traffic noise from the opposite road (turned off after 19:00) and the second being that the head upstairs is not. no safety bar so won’t be suitable for younger children (edited to add, the owner was in touch to say they have a safety bar – this was removed before the trip).
Instead of a straight up review, I decided to share 10 reasons to stay at Shepherd’s Retreats. Let me know if you like it! You can find more information and book online here.
The cabin is well equipped – everything you need is provided from tools and towels, firewood, bottle opener, washing up liquid, toiletries, crockery, fridge, en suite bathroom, binoculars, guidebook – honestly. all that is needed. Steve was impressed when he saw a pair of utensil drawers in the utensil drawer and got lost in the kitchen without anyone. Everything is finished to a very high standard and everything looks beautiful and luxurious.
I know many of you wouldn’t consider glamping without your own bathroom, and I do! At Shepherd’s Retreats you have your own private shower, sink and toilet. It is also a good rinse. You can see more about the bathroom in the video tour at the link above/below.

It’s not a problem for us now, but when our children were small, an enclosed garden was a dream for us. Being able to sit outside and know the kids won’t run out into the street is always comforting. As a parent of older children I have always appreciated this private space and it was lovely to sit outside alone with views of the coast and Dunstanburgh Castle in the distance.
A hot tub is high on many people’s lists when booking a break and Shepherd’s Retreats really does offer that. Designed for two seats, you heat the hot tub with the stove next to it. It takes about 90 minutes to come up to temperature, but once it’s done, you just need to turn off the heat for about 30 minutes each time you use it again during breaks to bring it up to temperature. This hot tub is the hottest hot tub I have ever been in. It’s a joy and I think the heat of the wood stove adds to the experience and makes it even more enjoyable. We had a routine where the kids would enjoy a bath in the afternoon and Steve and I would jump in at sunset. It’s beautiful.
Beadnell is a beautiful place and the beach reminds me of parts of Cornwall. The beach is dog friendly and here you can try your hand at kayaking, sailing, rowing or various other water sports. Lessons and equipment can be rented on the beach.
We laughed like a family trying to kayak – the kids got the hang of it and left the parents struggling to get started. They should flip about 10 times, but it’s really fun and well done for them to try. In the end, they got the hang of it! There is also a nice little beachside food shack (check out their Facebook page here).

Garnier in Beadnell is like the heart of the community and serves seafood at reasonable prices. I’ll try to go there with Steve at some point because the lobster and fries sound magical! There are also many activities you can do such as yoga on the beach. The people who live here really have my dreams. Beadnell is also home to the Craster Arms which is one of my favorite pubs.
Seahouses and Bamburgh are within 5 miles and well worth a visit. I recommend a boat trip with Serenity Tours to see the seals and Bamburgh Castle and the coast are not to be missed.
Box Pizza is just down the road – 10 minutes walk and great for takeaway or sit down. Pizza is magical! Check the opening hours and latest offers on the Facebook page as they may be sporadic. You can read Steve’s review of Box Pizza here.
If there is no fireplace when we glamp, it is not good glamping in the opinion of the children. There is a great selection here from indoor and outdoor wood burning ovens to large grills and pizza ovens. Back to basics in the best possible way. However, I overdo it with marshmallows!
Dog Friendly Glamping Holidays In Yorkshire
It’s all right to do a digital detox and spend less time on our phones while we spend time at Shepherd’s Retreats. The kids play in the park, we spend time in the hot tub and around the fire cooking/roasting marshmallows, play games (no favorite flavor) and read books BUT there are options to keep in touch with people and check Instagram. also.
There is also a USB charger (bring a car adapter) and there is WiFi. Harry was glad he could still watch YouTube videos and listen to podcasts while enjoying a hot chocolate before bed. When traveling with tweens and tweens, it’s all about compromise and I’m not going to be mad at Harry for being on the phone when he’s actively involved with us in other ways. It helps make the break less ‘full’ and like I said, it’s the kids’ holiday too, and if they want to have phone time, why not. It’s all about balance and it’s good to have options.
Directly above the King Size bed is a stargazing roof. I’ve lived somewhere with one of these before and I really think it’s USP. It was so peaceful to lie in bed and watch the clouds drift across the horizon. When was the last time you saw a cloud? I do not remember. I’ve been telling Steve all weekend that I feel relaxed. In the evening, when we turn off the lights, it’s just beautiful to see all the stars twinkling above. There are blinds if you are worried about the light in the morning, but they were not used and everything is fine.
I love that Shepherd’s Retreats are dog friendly. The area is great for dog walking and all the beaches are also dog friendly. Dogs are now allowed in the grounds near Bamburgh Castle and many dog friendly pubs/restaurants (you can read about some dog friendly pubs and restaurants here).
Dog Friendly Glamping With Hot Tub On The Northumberland Coast
Dogs receive a VIP welcome and homemade dog treats in the welcome pack, a garden hose for cleaning sandy paws, dog towels, food and water bowls. As a dog owner, you wouldn’t say this place is dog friendly and there are no signs that a dog has ever lived here. Definitely the best of both worlds!
Local craftsmen from Hexham build the cabin from recycled materials. I love that the upstairs of our cabin used to be part of the Rex Hotel in Whitley Bay. The cottage has been awarded a Silver Award by Green Tourism for its efforts which include using ‘A’ rated equipment, using recycled boxes, using local suppliers for welcome packs, using solar energy, using wood from 100% sustainable English forests, using environmental funds to cleaning, providing nests for birds and more. You can read more about environmental efforts here. Read It is good to choose accommodation that actively cares for the environment and is proactive.
