Self Catering Cottages Lake District Dog Friendly – Wow, wow… this place needs no words, but we don’t want you to miss the fact that Gatesgarth was awarded Best Place to Stay at the 2020 Northern Design Awards. The building is thermally efficient and incorporates many local elements from the craftsmen and builders, to the use of Herdwick wool on the dining chairs – yes, look at those chairs around the dining table too. They are actually made from a combination of Herdwick’s sheepwood and its combination with resin. I was impressed and if you are too, you can read more here. Cumbria Life readers will remember our 6 page feature on Gatesgarth in May 2020.
The small kitchen was designed and built by local craftsmen. Rusland’s drive and attention to detail everywhere from the Quooker lighting and faucets to the wine cooler!

Village Lakeland! This 4 bedroom home is tucked away from it all and has a hot tub!
Tilberthwaite is one of those Lakeland delights where you feel far enough away from it all to really relax, but with amenities not too far away if you really need them. Previous guests have loved the atmosphere here, and as one reviewer noted, sheep can be at your door, so keep that in mind if you bring your dog!
Regarding location, one reviewer noted that their provider’s phone signal is very weak/non-existent, if that’s important to you.
You can see more pictures (we don’t currently have a hot tub, but previous guests said it’s a good size and on a private deck). You can check availability and read guest reviews here. Subscribe to Simon Calder’s free travel email for expert advice and save money Get Simon Calder’s travel email
