There are several reasons; believe it or not, not only does dog poop dissolve in the sand, but irritable dogs are not always suited to the relaxing exercise of sunbathing.
However, there are a surprising number of dog-friendly beaches around Massachusetts. We’ve put together a list of five of our favorites to help you and your dog enjoy this summer.

This is a great beach for adventurous dogs and dog owners. It’s a rather difficult one kilometer walk from the car park, reached via a very rough dirt road. The beach itself is flat; it’s wild, rough and unequipped. This is the perfect place for you and your dog to run around on the beach and enjoy a secluded day.

South Boston has its fair share of dog-friendly beaches, and Castle Island is no exception. As long as your dog is on a leash, you are free to walk on each beach.
Located in South Boston, Carson Beach is a great place for your dog to stroll during the off-season (Labor Day through Memorial Day). What better way to demonstrate your dog’s retrieval abilities than by explaining to the Southern crowd, “My kids are a bad idea?” You can even treat yourself and your best friend to roast beef.
Are you and your puppy a Cape type? Don’t worry; Coast Guard Beach in Eastham is the place for you. The beach itself is shared by families and tourists, and there is even a lifeguard service. Dogs are allowed, but they are not allowed on the portion of the beach where swimmers are protected by lifeguards.
Brant Rock, located in Marshville, is one of the few year-round dog-friendly beaches in Massachusetts, so much so that there are poop bags at the entrance! Although the beach itself is narrow, there is plenty of room for you and your dog.
