Day 4 was my walk on the North York Moors, followed by a few days with friends and my stay at The Black Swan. And, while it doesn’t boast the grandeur of these luxurious hotel rooms, there’s something charming about this classic wooden pod right in the heart of historic North York.
On this part of my trip, Cookie and I joined the lovely Nikolai and his partner at the pub. They both write for the popular local publication Esk Valley News – so it was great to take a break from walking, and catch up on all the wonderful local writing and publications they produce.
Of course, the Fox and Hounds pod is very dog friendly and Cookie was totally exploring the great outdoors! The beans are in a field behind the pub, fenced off so I can keep the cookie out. Not to run around he needed it after our long day (and wrong turn).

Walking along the coast you can see across the ocean, absolutely uninterrupted and beautiful views, I can’t wait to walk along the coast on my last days in this national park. On one side there is all the drama of the swamp and then on the other side the crystal clear blue sea.
You can walk along the sandy beaches or follow the famous Cleveland Way National Trail. This trail takes you through the cliffs and takes you to the most amazing and daring views.
Whichever route you choose, keep an eye out for whales and dolphins as they periodically visit Yorkshire!

Our stay at Fox and Hounds was given as part of my walk, but everything I share is my honest opinion.
Visiting the North Moors of York, we decided to stay in the simple campsites available at the traditional and classic country hotel, the Fox and Hounds.
In fact, the Fox and Hounds dates back to 1555 and for hundreds of years the hotel has been strongly associated with the North York Moors.
On the doorstep of the hotel, you have access to many local footpaths, including national trails, bridleways and cycle paths – you’ll be spoiled for choice!

In the pods we have electricity, beds and other essential facilities. Although the bathrooms are on the entire floor, we each have our own shower, toilet and sink. So it still felt private (we just had a little extra walk!).
As a comfortable hotel room is always beautiful, pods offer us a whole new experience. Additionally, Fox and Hounds is a certified Dark Skies Friendly site. This means the pods are in the perfect spot to soak up all the glory of the night sky above the Moors. In fact, the hotel also provides night flashlights, binoculars and sky maps for guests to use.
After a long day of walking, we were very happy to return to the hotel for a proper pub dinner.
Nicola and her partner both joined us in the pub and although we were too late to take part in the pub quiz night, the pub was absolutely packed!

It has a great atmosphere and the food is excellent despite being busy. The entire menu consists of local, seasonal, home-baked products with a variety of delicious dishes. You can also choose from one of their changing seasonal specials, or reserve your place at their popular Sunday lunch.
Foxes and Hounds also go big on their drinks. From its traditional bar, you can choose from a wide range of real regional ales, premium wines, or your favorite spirits. I stayed with a coke, 4 weeks and not a drop of alcohol.
To prepare you for a long day of walking, you can also visit the pub for breakfast. Anyway, I had to get up this morning to start walking again, so I’ll have to try breakfast on my next visit!
A short drive from the Fox and the Hounds, you can explore the charming and historic fishing villages of the Yorkshire coast.
