Dog Friendly Road Trips, According To Their Humans
Burlington, Vermont is one of New England’s dog-friendly destinations. With amazing outdoor adventures and a laid-back, modern downtown, Burlington is a playground for dogs and their companions. You’ll find lots of fun things to do with your pup. Stroll the Burlington Greenway along the shores of Lake Champlain, then stop for a local brew at one of the city’s many dog-friendly breweries. Burlington beer spots that allow patio pups include Foam Brewers and Zero Gravity Craft Brewery, while places like Switchback Brewing Co also allow dogs indoors. Church Street Market, one of New England’s most famous pedestrian (and puppy-friendly) malls, has dog-friendly restaurants and shops. For pet-friendly accommodations, Made Inn Vermont, a quaint inn just steps from downtown, provides a comfortable home away from home for you and your dog.
As the dog days of summer roll by, there’s no better place to be with your pooch than Cape Cod. With miles of pristine coastline, laid-back and irresistible charm, and countless outdoor activities, Cape Cod is the perfect summer destination for humans and dogs alike. You’ll especially love visiting Cape Cod National Seashore. These sun-drenched sandy beaches and trails allow dogs off leash even in high season. Afterwards, quench your thirst at Provincetown Brewing Company. They’re so dog-friendly (and socially conscious), there’s a doghouse in the beer garden with a sign that says “Racist Mode.” There are also a number of pet-friendly properties on the Cape. Pamper your pooch at the unique Chatham Bars Inn, or try to “check in” with your pooch at a campground at Nickerson State Park.
Cape Cod National Seashore is just one of the many reasons to visit Cape Cod with your dog.
For a relaxing beach vacation with your dog, check out Cape Elizabeth, Maine. Just five miles south of Portland, it’s a great place to get away from it all without going too far. At the south end of Fort Williams State Park, home to the iconic Portland Lights, there is a large grassy area where dogs can run and play. Of course, you can’t visit Maine without trying a local lobster roll, and Bite into Maine has a food truck located in the park with pet-friendly picnic tables. Higgins Beach is a popular place for young people to have fun in the sand and splash in the water. After a long day in the sun, relax at the Inn by the Sea, a luxurious beachside resort offering the ultimate in pampering for pets and their owners.
Dog Friendly Vacation Rentals Near Nyc
You and your dog will love exploring Nantucket together. This tiny island off the coast of Cape Cod has almost no traffic lights and no quintessential New England charm. Right after the boat ride, where you’ll see plenty of other pet owners along the way, it’s clear that Nantucket is a dog-friendly place. Choose from a variety of dog-friendly activities, from strolling the Sconset Bluff Walk to exploring historic lighthouses. There are several patios in town that are dog-friendly, including Suzanne’s Black-Eyed Breakfast and Bistro Queequeg’s American Restaurant. Sit back and stay a while at the Brass Lantern Inn, which welcomes four-legged friends in select rooms for a nominal fee.
This very dog-friendly town in northeastern Vermont is a must-see. Known as the ski capital of Austria, Stowe attracts visitors from all over the world to its world-class resort every winter. But with plenty of outdoor activities every season, Stowe is the perfect place to holiday with your dog.
For the big adventurer, Smuggler’s Notch State Park offers miles of hiking trails through the stunning Green Mountains. For something a little easier (but just as fun), you and your dog will love walking the Stowe Recreational Trail. This 11-mile paved trail is lined with dog-friendly restaurants and breweries along the way. There are also a number of dog-friendly accommodations in the area to suit all budgets. Luxury resorts such as Trapp Family Lodge, Topnatch Resort, and the Lodge at Spruce Peak offer amenities. But if you’re looking for something cheaper, take your dog to Field Guide Lodge or Stowehof.
